I signed up for this service because there was a free two week trial period. I went with the platinum level service because it came with anti-virus software and public record monitoring. I figured even if I didn't like the service, a few months of the anti-virus would be work it since the platinum level service is less than $20 a month.
I ended up keeping the service for a better reason that the antivirus software though. I was visiting St. Louis and I either misplaced or had my wallet stolen. I got a call from my bank because I'm from Kansas, and had forgotten to alert them that I would be out of town. They saw a purchase on my card from St Louis (which I didn't make. I had lost my wallet nearly immediately after getting off my bus) and wanted to make sure it was me.
I'm happy that I never alerted the bank that I was going out of state, otherwise they wouldn't have let me know. I quickly called Identity Guard, however, and they were able to get all of my credit cards cancelled. This was great since my bank was only able to cancel my debit card. I was in trouble, though, because I have a local Kansas bank with no locations outside of my county and the three surrounding it. Identity Guard help immensely though, because they actually provided emergency funds for me (they told me I could get up to $2000, though I didn't end up needing this.
Without Identity Guard, my vacation, and probably my credit, would've been ruined.
