I'm a guy from United States
About me: Unrepentant highbrow, living on the west coast someplace. Generally moderate to liberal on most things. Ph.D. in something I usually avoid on RIA; Mensa member. I spend most of my online time writing on Wikipedia in my field of expertise; I'm also an administrator there. RIA is fun for me because unlike Wikipedia, it encourages opinions--I get a break from having to be neutral-point-of-view. This is an opinion site. While most of my posts will be well-reasoned, not all of my likes and dislikes are rational, so I reserve the right to say some perfectly silly things. Thanks for visiting!

This smelly job took some guts to do.

About the most reliable future anyone could read was that the disembowelled goat would shortly die.

Pretty good; no major complaints so far.  Trade execution is as near to instantaneous as I could desire, and the personal consultations don't cost anything.  Researching on their website is a mixed bag--some of the data you can pull there is better than anything I've found on the free internet, but I still go to Yahoo finance for a lot of companies (especially foreign) they don't cover. Beware of the hidden fees in Schwab mutual funds, which they try just a little too hard to sell to you.  You're usually better off in index funds anyway.

Another in a long line of despots going back to Xerxes, Cyrus, Darius, Sargon.  Let's never forget the lengthy history of this nation; and many of its characteristics have endured since its failed attempt to exterminate Athenian democracy 2500 years ago.  While Ahmadinejad does not have the stature of those great tyrants of old, he does have a fair amount of power and influence: and let's not forget that he's an extremist, without even the skill for softening his hatred with sugared diplomatic language.  Ahmadinejad is a man driven by hate, and a strong desire to rebuild an empire dead for centuries, and he has a knack for acquiring popular support from the most shrill of the illiterate -- and not only in Iran.

I have a feeling that something very bad is going to happen with Iran in the coming years.

The hemisphere's newest clown, although he's neglected to choose a colorful outfit:  while his nose lengthens every time he opens his mouth, he'd still be better with a fake one.  --I'm not sure yet if he's a serious threat or just the newest demagogic windbag, a type of political mutant that our world seems to produce in abundance.  Will he survive?  For a while, since he plays his populace well.  His recent alliance with Ahmadinejad says more about external perception of the U.S. than about anything connecting Venezuela and Iran, two of the most unlike nations on the planet.  He wants to be Castro, but he's got neither the peculiar genius of that man nor the bloody history.  Yet he's a youngster:  we'll see.

Redemption, renewal, the chance to begin again, a metaphor for unconditional love and sacrifice, and all these things shown in nature's annual and ever-renewing cycle.

Yup, I enjoy them.  After two hours of this junk food, I feel like I've eaten a whole bag of potato chips.  Then I notice the empty bag.

Mine's full of food but there's nothing to eat.  Know the feeling?  Guess I should go out.

Except for spam, wonderful, especially for work-related stuff.  Unlike the telephone which interrupts you, e-mail can be dealt with all at once.  It's efficient.
