Audie Murphy's life - growing up dirt poor in Texas, his heroics in WWII ,and the trauma and nightmares he suffered from the war,and the strain it put on his marriage and family, and his untimely death - earns nothing but my total respect ,and 5 stars.
His acting career ,however, I'm sorry to say, earns nearly the opposite. As far as his show business career goes, he had more in common with non-actors that went into the industry, like Elvis Presley,Bruce Lee,Chuck Norris, or Steven Seagal; acting so bad ,so tone deaf, that not even working with legitimate, good actors and directors, could make him look good, and even made those good actors look bad, affecting them into over / underacting worse than they would when working with other good actors, and resulted in mostly lame movies, that would've been far better if a talented thespian had played his roles.
