The Go-Go's were the most popular all-female band to emerge from the punk/new wave explosion of the late '70s and early '80s, becoming one of the first commercially successful female groups that wasn't controlled by male producers or managers. While some people think of them as pop, the live version of the Go-Go's rocks. They are great entertainers , and their talent is underrated, as Charlotte Caffey plays keyboards, bass, and drums, in addition to guitar; Kathy Valentine (bass) is actually a killer guitarist and songwriter - she only took up bass because she decided, "I want to be in THIS band." The first all-girl group to write their own music and play their own instruments (very well, I might add), they are still one of the best all girl bands you will ever see. [Some voters plug the Go's friends, The Bangles, but their big hits were written by Prince.]
