Tue Aug 24 2010I like this scotch. I do not care if the experts say it is bland and mundane. I like it a lot, the light refereshing taste chased by a subtle touch of smoke is very nice. Considering I am not actually rich, for the point and price it is one of my top choices. It is very similar to glenfiddich, but differs in it's own unique way.

Thu Aug 12 2010I personally prefer full bodied single malts that are sherry or port influenced. Despite my preference I still think this is a fantastic and more delicate scotch. I would buy this one again!

Wed Feb 24 2010Has wide appeal. A great single malt for those new to scotch. Easy to drink, smooth, and very little peat. And easy on the wallet. good value. good scotch. (dont drink it in the hot tub though, I've ruined many a fine scotch that way)

Tue Sep 29 2009An excellent step-up the Scotch ladder for blended Scotch drinkers. Ultra-smooth just somewhat lacking in character. Would never turn down a dram of The Glenlivet. This is the latest 12-year version. Reasonable price for a single-malt. Enjoyed my bottle all the way to the end. Update: Great beginner Scotch or for those who savor smoothness over character. Nothing wrong with this whisky, just a bit mild for the experienced drinker of single malts.

Thu Aug 13 2009First tried after the Chivas Regal. Was my first single malt scotch. Thought it was wonderful at the time. Now, seems just tame to my tongue since I tried the Islays.

Wed Aug 12 2009Until I win the lottery and can afford to buy more expensive single malt Scotches, Glenlivet will have to do but I'm certainly not complaining. It's still better than most of the blended Scotches out there.

Tue Aug 04 2009Not the best single malt I've tried, but not the worst either. Light, but classic character. This is one that can be shared with novice scotch drinkers and not break the bank. Good starter scotch.

Wed Dec 31 2008If you're buying... Otherwise this did nothing for me.

Tue Nov 25 2008I like it. It's not spectacular, I guess I just like more peat and smoke. I taste a little woods and a little caramel, but the finish is mellow, smooth...boring?

Thu Oct 16 2008Decent, but not interesting. OK for the price.

Wed Oct 01 2008A good starter scotch. I like the tingly numbness that it left in my mouth. I haven't had that with any others.

Tue Sep 02 2008I am a regular bourbon and scotch drinker who came across the Glenlivet 12 yr. as it is the "official" single malt served in American Airlines domestic first class. This is a surprisingly intricate pour with red wine hints and a butterscotch palate. Very competitive and beats all blends and many single malts.

Tue Apr 29 2008Not bad, there's just nothing that's really noteworthy.

Sun Mar 02 2008Help! Someone stole the flavor from my scotch!

Sun Oct 28 2007Glenlivet 12yr was my introduction to single malts many years ago. While not the most complex scotch out there, it is smooth with a faint sweetness and excellent over ice. Consistently enjoyable and the best scotch under $50 a bottle.

Fri Aug 03 2007Very very smoothe

Fri May 25 2007Best of the mass market scotch whiskeys. Some good peat and sweetness. Decent wood. Good for the price.

Fri May 11 2007Smooooooooooth. This is the real stuff. Enjoy this at room temperature straight up, sipping slow to savor the flavor. Let's face it, anything with a "Glen" in the title is going to be the real deal.

Thu Apr 19 2007I'm a novice, but I like the Glenlivet 15 year better than the Balvenie 10 year (although I like both). Great scotch.

Wed Mar 14 2007An excellent 'value for money' single malt. Undoubtedly the best in its price bracket!

Tue Feb 13 2007A wee bit overrated I think. Lacking in complexity or something. Not quite sure why I don't like it as much as I really wanted to, but it always disappoints me a bit.

Mon Apr 24 2006Very smooth and dependably so.

Sat Dec 17 2005I like it better than Oban, a little water, some ice cube! Nuff said!

Sat Dec 17 2005Great taste...less filling.

Wed Sep 21 2005An elegant yet uncomplicated malt. For a real treat grab the 15 year old finished in French Oak - a superb malt and my usualy choice after a rough day at work.

Mon Jul 11 2005Usually the introduction to the single malts for the uninitiated--ok to start.

Sun Apr 24 2005A very decent single malt (for the price). A good nose, smooth finish, with a decent, but unimpressive taste.
by irishfratboy
Thu Jan 27 2005One of the very good scotches out there for those with a smaller budget. It's no macallan, but for those like me without 100 dollars in their wallet at all time, it'll do just fine.

Fri Nov 05 2004Can't beat the price. All types are good intoructions to the world of scotch.

Sat Oct 16 2004Not as good as I was hoping. Medium body that is tough on the palate. The twelve year is smooth at first but the finish is rough with false heat and an inconstitent finish. The nose is great with a lot of flower and honey but it just does not taste like a twelve year. I suggest Dewar's 12 and Johnnie Walker black over this everyday of the week. For the price you can do a lot better.

Thu Mar 18 2004I suppose everyone in the U.S. has the Glenlivet. I got the 18 year old for Christmas and definitely like it. Great as a pre-dinner dram or in the summer. Nice floral hints on the nose with a warm mouthfeel. Finish is short but pleasant. Good, but not a great dram because of the lack in complexity.

Sat Jun 14 2003I suppose we are rating the 12 years old malt. This is great, but there are some other whiskies from Glelivet which ar even better than great....

Mon Apr 21 2003Overrated, but I'd never turn one down.

Wed Apr 02 2003Sweet sweet nectar. I cut it with a little water and some ice cubes...so nice.

Mon Jan 13 2003I was strictly a bourbon and vodka man when it came to spirits until I tried a Glenlivet, I was pleasantly surprised. It's packed full of delightful flavors, goes down like silk and has a wonderful, lingering finish that I can't describe, you'll have to try it for yourself, I don't believe you'll be found wanting. After sampling other malts, I've decided to stick with Glenlivet, especially the 18-year-old. I highly recommend this "nectar of the Gods" to anyone who's never tried a single malt whisky.

Sun Dec 29 2002This is my new favourite scotch and the one that made me a convert to malt whisky. For those curious about single-malts, start with either Glenlivet or Glenfiddich. Drink it neat or with a little ice, but this one's not for mixing. Glenlivet is smoother than Glenfiddich but has a tad less character. I look forward to trying other single-malts.
