I'm and Even Williams man... but I bought some OGD this weekend to give it a try. I'm always trying to find a great tasting Bourbon and willing to try anything new. OGD did real well... talking about bang for the buck! I don't mix drinks... either straight of with water... I'm about taste. I haven't had your 100 proof yet... only the 86. Can't wait. Keep up the good work. Love the "same taste" my grand dad would have enjoyed. Ric

Not great and not too bad. It's decent for a cheap whiskey but there's alot better out there in the same price range. However, the 114 is to die for and the 100 is quite good as well.

If and when I can afford it, I usually stick to Jim Beam. After being on a Jim Beam kick, I finally bought some Wild Turkey, and I was amazed at that! So I decided one day to buy some Old Gran Dad, and I expected a good bourbon. I found myself thoroughly disappointed, and the price definitely didn't justify the only slightly better taste than Jim Beam. If i have no money, im sticking to Jim Beam, If i do have money, I'm going straight for the Turkey. EDIT 12/19/09: Okay, I went back and on a whim decided to buy a bottle of Old Gran Dad 100 proof, and its definitely better than the 80 proof version. Between that and Wild Turkey 101, I'm starting to think that 100 proof bourbons are where it's at :-)

Old GD < taste or Maker's Mark, but it's cheaper and good enough.

Most of the reviews here are obviously from non-bourbon drinkers. OGD is the best bang-for-the-buck whiskey available. "It burns me!, I had a horrible hang-over!" What incredible wussies! All liquours will burn when drunk straight and all will give a bad hangover when drunk in excess. When you acquire a taste for whiskey, you'll start to discern subtle and not-so subtle differences between brands like flavor, both quality and quantity, aroma and aftertaste. Some whiskeys are smoother and some are more flavorful but OGD(whatever proof you're talking about) has the best mix of good qualities for the price. Some of my favorite high-end bourbons are Woodford Reserve, Maker's Mark and Gentleman Jack. Unless I taste them side-by-side, I'm just as content with OGD. All you girly-men stick to your Appletinis and wine spritzers!

The 100 proof is great but the 86 proof has its own strong and distinctive taste. I like it.

The 100 proof Old Grandad tastes like brown kerosine! Shun this!

Tried the 80 or 86 proof, whatever the lower end boubon is. Not one I would drink straight up. Good mixer though as it has big flavor doesn't disappear in the mix. Want to try the 100 proof or better but haven't seen it locally. Update: Have tried the 100 proof AKA Bottled in Bond OGD. Good stuff. Raised my rating for the 100 proof to 4 stars in part due to the value. The flavor profile is a bit stilted compared to some of the designer whisky available in todays marketplace but the flavor is very good. Smooth for a 100 as well. (12-04-08)

Hi there, I'm doing some market research for Old Grand Dad whiskey and I was wondering if you would like to give me your opinion on the brand by answering a few questions. Thanks. What are the things you like most about OGD? What are the things you like least about OGD? Where is the most common place you drink OGD? At home, at a friends, or at a bar/restaurant? What City do you live in? How old are you? What are your hobbies/interests? Any suggestions for Old Grand Dad? Email me at [email protected] with your answers and thanks so much for your time!

In my early 20's I worked at a Liquor Store. I tried all kinds of whiskey, but when I tried OLD GRAND DAD, I said, "Whoe, that taste different and good! I'm 61 years old now and it's still my favorite. Wally G in Oakland

Old Grand Dad has one of the most unique flavors in the bourbon market. It is a like it or hate it beverage and I like it. Pay the extra cash for the 100 proof BIB for the best OGD experience.

Does anyone know if OLD GRANDAD has an web site? I can't find one cause I have to ask them, WHY DON'T THEY SHIP THERE WHISKEY TO MAUI, HAWAII? Do any of you people know what its like to drink anything other than OLD GRANDAD for two weeks? Painful, I did and I won't ever go back to Hawaii unless it's shipped there or I take it there myself. My wife & I started to drink this fine whiskey about 30 years ago & we haven't left. "Whiskey glass filled with ice, filled with OLD GRANDAD with just a splash of Coke". Never had a hangover in the morning but I have still felt drunk. MY DRINK FOREVER!

Damn Fools just can't understand. Bonded 100 proof Old Grand Dad. It breathes with real Whiskey breath. Sure, buy a smooth mellow sweet premium taste you can rave on about. That's fine & dandy and variety is the spice of life. To me when you just call out to the bar keep for a shot of Bourbon. Old Grand Dad speaks loud & proud about true value & taste. Folks have relented to losing the significance of drinking some good Ole pure Kentuck. Sum it up, Old Grand Dad Bonded ain't for sissies.

Old Grandad Bonded 100 Proof cannot be beat for the price. Add a dash of water, over ice, or  mixed. There is a little fire in this rye bourbon if you sip it neat. I'd give it 5 stars for value.

I am a total OGD 100prf convert. I recently took a flight and had Jack Daniels. I was amazed at the medicinal aftertaste. In Mass I can get OGD 100 for 16.99. My opinion is that nothing (not Makers, Knob or Turkey) can even come close to the smoothness of OGD.

I am a bourbon drinker and have tried most of the Kentucky boubons and and my favorite is 100 proof Old Grand Dad. If has more flavor than the 86 proof or the 114 proof. Try it .

After a night of hammerin on the Grand Dad I lit a toilet seat on fire on my stove. The house was filled with smoke and the FD came, but aside from the near death experience, I would definitely recommend Old Grand Papy to anyone, of any age.

This was my old man's bourbon. He'd be 66 this year, left us in 2000. The dude was a class act. I found this site while searchin' and found it entertaining.

My rating takes into account the cost. I buy OGD at Rite-Aid for $5.99 on sale. At that price, nothing touches it. A terrific mixer as well.

I am the biggest Old Grand Dad fan of them all. Not you! I have the logo tattoed on me forehead and I peel and stick all the labels on my car windows. I make and sell jewelry from the lids. You should see my collection of bottles, just drive by my mom's house and look in my window. They should let you buy OGD with stamps, because it replaces meals. Also, my kids need to buy some more, I am out. Spill a little down your collar, smells better than Aquo Velvet. A complex, refined and elegant blended beverage for sophisticated gentlemen like mine own. Cheers.

Don't judge by the bottom of the line, work your way up. I like the 86 proof until I tried the 100 proof. Then I made the mistake of trying the 114, fish on. Once you have had the 114 your hooked.

In a nut shell medium grade bourbon at a miiddle of the road price. Cut my bourbon teeth on OGD. Has it's own taste and fairly smooth. Worth the price if you don't want to step it up a notch to the Turkeys, Maker's and Knobs.

I've been drinking OGD for 30 years now. I won't drink anything else. You haven't tied one on until you tied one on with Old Grand Dad! I'm 50 years old and just got the OGD label tatooed on my shoulder. Now there's a dedicated OGD drinker!

Okay, so some reviews rave and some hate it. The truth is that it's probably right in between. Alot like Al Gore, promising, but ultimately kind of boring.

Drank half a fifth of the 100 proof in one night. Great stuff. Sweet and smooth, especially for something this potent. But totally felt like sh*t the next day. And not just in the morning, the entire day. SO, drink it responsibly in moderation, and it is a gem at roughly $18.00 for the 100 proof.

Not great, but distinctly sweet... have to give it points for having a unique taste. The sweet tint makes it really stand out amongst bourbons. Not harsh at all; an easy swallow. (Haven't tried 100 proof, just the regular.)

I really enjoy my bourbon, I prefer Maker's Mark, and Woodford Reserve. I also enjoy Mcallan single malt scotch. Though I felt that I would try some Old Grand Dad, since a friend had offered it to me and his advice had always been reliable. Though I must say that the 86 proof is total garbage. It is the most heinous whiskey I have ever tasted and the finish on it left me with an I vomited in my mouth a little taste. I will, however, try the 100 proof, just to make sure that I am not leaving any stones unturned. Otherwise, if you are planning on purchasing a bottle of 86 proof, use it as a testament to what horrible whiskey tastes like.

Old Grand Dad is an excellent non small batch bourbon. Many of the uninformed look at the orange label and think it is rought gut whiskey. Oh contre', this is a very smooth bourbon. I have drank almost every quality bourbon out there; Buffalo Trace, Makers Mark, Rip Van Winkle, Knob Creek, Wild Turkey, Woodford Reserve but I always return to Old Grand Dad. Yea you yuppies stick with your designer Vodkas in the fancy over priced bottles and I'll stick with the smoothest bourbon around - Old Grand Dad.

Old Grand Dad 100 is the best of the commonly available, non-small batch bourbons. It has an initial bite that snaps the tongue to attention and then dissolves into a fruity mix of flavors that pleases each area of the palate differently. The mouth feel is rich, without cloying, the color is pure. Wild Turkey self-destructs, Jack Daniels isn't even close, Maker's Mark is great but doesn't have the staying power, Knob Creek never gives up its initial bluster and Jim Beam is ashamed to show his face in front of OG.

The 100-proof version is quite good, and one of my guilty pleasures. I find the 80-proof version rather uninteresting.
