Nothings changed for the Dolls since the 70's, as I look at this list of reviews there's still the same passion and controversy as when the Dolls won Creem Magazine's Best New Band and Worst New Band in the same year. We owe so much to those twin buzzsaw guitars that hacked away the fatuousness of YES, ELP and Rush. How many, many bands have copied that ruthless glamour but never come close? From Dee Dee Ramone's lips to my ears at CBs circa 1976 "There would be no Ramones, no punk rock without the New York Dolls" C'mon already I think it's the Stones doppleganger thing that's really behind the unending snub... critics get over yourselves. No shit they should be in the HOF way, way before Kiss/Walmart and Aerosmith/Target and the legion of others they've inspired and been ripped off by.

Although I'm not a believer in the value or legitimacy of a "Rock and Roll Hall of Fame", anyone overlooking the NY Dolls for inclusion in such an organization really doesn't understand what "Rock and Roll" is, or what it should be, or what it occasionally once was. Although it's often an exercise in futility to argue about who "invented" punk rock (was Elvis the first punk? Lou Reed? Iggy?), the Dolls, along with the Stooges and the MC5, certainly stand among its foremost progenitors. A slew of bands through the ensuing decades have appropriated their look and trappings, making a fortune in the process. If only they had appropriated the talent, raw vitality or even a fraction of the exhilerating energy of the Dolls at their awe-inspiring best. I initially came across the Dolls in the mid 70's, when I saw their first album in the "Sale" bin at a local McCrory's. Yes, adrogyny might have been in, but these guys weren't iconic glam-rock "starmen" like David Bowie or Marc Bolin. They look... Read more

Created punk. Anyone doubting their worthiness hasn't listened to their debut album. Docked one star for short lifespan.

Deserve at least a little credit as an early "proto-punk" band. Not spectacular,or even close- two and a half stars.

New York Dolls have been ripped off by countless of bands! They're one of the great American Rock bands of all time and they would blow Aerosmith Guns N Roses KISS away!!!!

Along with the Stooges and MC5 they should join VU as one of the founders of Punk.
