Flea is hands down my favorite bassist. When you see him live you know that theres noone with more chemistry on a bass. I've thought about whether Flea is a better bassist than Wooten, and it almost always comes down to this: Wooten is obviously more skilled. Just look at the guy. Sometimes you can't SEE his fingers cause there moving so fast. He has a million different types of styles and he's unpredictable, BUT flea makes better music. He DOESN'T mess up. I've never seen flea mess up live or on a video/song. Other talented people like wooten get caught up in playing fast and sometimes they bunch notes together that just don't sound good. Flea knows how to play jazz, punk, alternative, pop rock, etc. and he plays them all flawlessly. What makes flea the best is that every one one of his riffs are original and smooth, They SOUND good. I honstly think he's the jimi hendrix of the bass guitar.

flea is the best and it is not a stupid thing to say...like you said listen to one of his lines and his speed. He is way more talented than Wooten among others...HE IS THE BEST...watch wooten play he is so stiff and plays the same shit over and over, he never incorporates any pull-offs, etc. just hits and pops the same notes very quickly a.k.a. no originality, also look at who Wooten is playing for, (not the Red Hot Chili Peppers). Does he have a bass made after him? If so tell me because I have never heard of it.

Flea (aka Needles!)lol  Is the Bass equivilant to Slash in my opinion.  For our generation u mention bassists and i wreckon Flea would spring to mind for most people.  His playing is instantly recognisable most often drives the songs. Has co-written/played on some of the biggest songs/hits of our time.   His playing just makes your jaw drop sometimes. The RHCP's are now a much better live act now than they were. Flea is an exciting performer and i think he would be a great asset to any band.

flea is the greatest, victor could reach that greatness if he put his skill into working with a real band and dimming it down a little and save the crazy stuff for a bass solo.

in reply to twoleggedshoe or whatever, flea is ONE of the best bassists around. admittedly bootsy collins pioneered the slap style but come on mate, incapable of playing a simple bassline?!?! have you EVER heard "this is the place" off of by the way, admittedly repetative but simple all the same and its effective! Pea off of One hot minute, simple. Venice Queen, simple. Road Trippin, simple. Other Side, simple. have i made my point?

flea is the best(at least to me and quite alot of other people)anyhow it might not be extremly smart to say hes the best who ever lived, but skill is to be learnt, and a genius is or is not. thats the reason why i lo^ve paul mccartney so much, listen to some of his not so famouse stuff, or e.g. hello goodbye, that bassline actually makes the song, like on californication where flea made one of his best, even all the guitar players play that bassline and dont even kniw its bass.....try that for size, flea is the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Flea is a great bassist, theres no doubting that. Saying he's the best ever is a very stupid thing to say. Anyone who says this has never seen players like Jaco Pastorius, Victor Wooten and Clarke Stanley play. Flea is great yes, but not the best.

The is the best bass player and he doesn't have to have a twenty minute solo like some bass to prove it. He is in an awseome band which some bass aern't which makes you wonder maybe the bass players look so good because they in a crap band which makes them look like a god, but flea has to share the glory with Athony Kiedis (singer), John Fruscante (Giutar), and Chad Smith (drummer). Now if you compare him to the a bassist from Rush or a band worth talking about then you can talk. Watch if you dont see it now you will later, watch the Chili Peppers can't stop.

I have listened to RHCP ever since I was born. Flea is the reason I play bass, I even quoted him for my senior quote. "We are nothing but a pawn in a cosmic spiritual realm where the universe is a dot."

Flea is the best bass player ever. Whoever disses him is insane. Listening to all the RHCP songs, it's evident that Flea's skill is right up there with John Frusciante's. He always has energy on the stage and jams so perfectly with the guitar.

By far the most talented and innovative bass player in rock history. I had the pleasure of seing him up close and live at a show back in 2000, and he was every bit as amazing live as he is recorded. Just focus on the basslines in Soul to Squeeze and Under the Bridge, for example. The man's a genius, plain and simple.

Very talented, however, he would take a seat to Bootsy Collins and anyone of the funk area. Also flea in incapable of carrying out a simple base line, he has to be center stage with the very banausic use of what is refered to as 'slap bass'.
