Eddie Van Halen would make any supergroup better! Eddie is definitely the greatest guitar player of all-time and he would add some musicality to any band. I would start with him and work my way down to fill in the rest of the pieces for a supergroup.

EVH in a super group would be okay. Like it's been mentioned though, it was the group VH that won the worlds heart, not just EVH. Having said that, EVH is among the worlds best guitarists. Many people like Steve Vai and SRV have recognized that. If you listen close to many of the newer guitar stars, and some of the older ones, they try and emulate alot of what EVH has done. Even Angus Young of AC/DC started playing some EVH licks AFTER VH hit the world stage. I remember seeing one shot of EVH and Roy Clark, yes Roy Clark of Hee Haw, play together. Want to talk about an awesome guitar duo. Believe it or not, Roy Clark kept up with EVH and blew his mind. Overall though, EVH is one of my favorites. He always seems to be a down to earth dude that has fun playing, and connecting with his audience. I have to admit, the times I've gone to see VH in the past, I've been noted as making the comment, "I'm lookiing forward to seeing Eddie." I'm 42 now, and my wife and I are going to see VH in Geor... Van Halen is and was the most intricate player of our time. His attack and tone allows you to perfectly hear his nuances and technique. Only player who comes close in terms of delivering real balls to a note is paul gilbert.

Eddie influenced every guitar player that started after '78 and influenced some that had been playing before then. Greatest American guitarist ever.

Eddie is surely one of the greatest guitarists of all time - I'm assuming all entries must still be alive, so in the absence of Hendrix, Eddie would be my first choice for a US Supergroup. Hpefully he can still produce works like 'Eruption'

I am sick and tired of the old line, Eddie was all flash and no substance. The guy is the best rhythm player ever. He had/has the best tone ever. He played solos that had feel, melody, humour and that fit into the context of a song. He played in a band that sold like 100 million albums, yeah sure, can't write a song. Only a dick who has never listened to DLR era Van Halen would say this. He single handedly invented the way REAL guitar players approach guitar, the way guitars are manafactured, the way we use amps, wammy bars, effects, the way guitars look. The guy can play the most simple emotive lines or play the most outside stuff you have ever heard. Eddie is the king, will always be the king.

Edward may not be the fastest after his debute but his originality has not been challenged or even visited. He stepped out in a time after the greats had been established and defined classic rock-- by not playing any of it... in any recognizable form. EVH really did re-invent the wheel, and it is still rolling.

Well being from Canada, I'm not sure if my opinion counts...however 30 years of playing guitar in bars and partys over the years in various bands up here in the Great White North gives me some input. Ok so you want to pick a Supergroup and some even have to think about whether Eddie Van Halen isn't the best to start the line up playing lead? There is nobody that even came close to playing like he did in his time...his feel, his attack, his attitude...nobody came close...others followed, some were faster, some more flashy, but where are they now? As for a song writer one persons comment said he could'nt write...this person obviously has'nt listened to Right Now. No song sums up life better. For those who question his playing style, try playing the lead to Mean Street and get back to me when you do. Doubt you will, and if you do, then maybe you'll appreciae where I'm coming from. Rumour has it the Van Halen band is going to be the next group to be on "You could be a Rock Star" to fin... Read more

Read my Eddie Van Halen comment because I don't want to rewrite it.It is on the Eddie Van Halen(Greatest Guitarist of all time, Even though he's not) page.Oh, and there's many people like EVH: Jimmy Page, Steve Vai, need I go on? Like I said before countless times, he's good but he isn't the greatest

I agree, EVH is good but he's not the greatest, there are tons of guitarist better than. Just because you can play fast doesn't mean you're good. Like if your mom, who has never touched a guitar in her life played "Eruption" on your '63 Strat, it doesn't mean she's good. Just like every person that picks up a guitar and plays the intro of Stairway to Heaven and thinks they're a super guitarist. Does that mean they're great, no.

Well , I'll put it like this. I think it takes more manual dexterity (skill)(it does not matter if you pick or tap/hammer) to emulate his style (EVH) as opposed to playing like SRV,Calpton,Hendrix,A.Young who are also great/exceptional players. There are a surpluss amount of great guitar players on there out in this world. I don't know maybe its me , but Ive played a little bit of everything and to me it takes a lot more guitar practice to play like Eddie. Its all in what you like. To me , there is no best guitarist its all in musical taste and what you like to listen to and Eddies music just really moves me in a great way. Lets face it gentlemen , the guy does play above average and his songs really do touch you (not all , but a majority if songs just like with any artist). I have always looked up to Eddie because of the way he carries himself. He does not act like a bigshot and I see him as a very down to earth individual. He seems like someone you would want to hang out with f... Read more

Best player rock and roll ever saw. It's not just his brilliant originality and creativity, but the way he puts it into the music. And his attitude and personality when it comes to playing is extremely admirable.

Just to clarify, Eddie is not the super group, VAN HALEN is. Eddie is the driving force yes, he brought a new attitude to playing guitar in his time but it has been the group as a whole that has been what the fans truly value. To add to that, it has been the two significant front men (Roth and Hagar) who have been the piece that brought the band together that will soon be no more. The Van Halen bros. in their middle age have let there egos get in the way of what there fans want and it will do them in before their time. I tend to agree somewhat with 'djahti's call in the way that Eddie is not writing very good songs of late, add the fact that he hs fired Sammys whole road crew and is alienating him badly means we are seeing the last tour that these four will ever do. Sammy has already somewhat communicated this to the media. I think that means the end of Van halen becasue without Sammy there will be no magic. The result will be much the same as it was when Steven Tyler and Joe Per... Read more
