Their influence on 80s music is undeniable, but their songs are terrible.

Purposely simple grunge rock. Slinky and sweet bubble glam. Great!

Did help pioneer glam rock in the early 70s before Bowie and Elton both went glam and a hugely influencial career in the UK filled with many hits. Still in the US he is a one hit wonder and that will hurt his chances.

one of the best bads to come out of the uk.t-rex were inovative and thier music is still used to this day in films and adverts even tho its over 30yrs since marc bolans death.many bands have said they were influenced by t-rex and i feel they should rightly be in the hall of fame

Marc Bolan deserves to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame more than any other potential candidate. He was multi-talented, wrote and performed great songs and forged a whole new genre of rock.

he was brilliant that MARC! with his band T REX he helped cultivate the glam movement in the 70's. i, personally put him at the top of the boogie rockin pyre. he did what he believed and believed what he did. he was electric! first time listeners start with "THE ESSENTIAL COLLECTION" of a couple years back. it takes you near the beginning, shares him at the height of his powers, and let's you hear where he was when he died. c'mon guys. nominate him for the rock and roll hall of fame. if any one deserves it marc does

Really one of the most overrated bands in the history of rock music. There was nothing special about them: indeed they really are little different in character from modern-day teen pop except that they had a more powerful, deeper (but even less melodic) vocalist. Their songs just have very little substance or anything to distinguish them.

Unique, before his time, Bolan's music is still valid and fresh today! ADD

Much bigger in his homeland than here in the States. Bolan put out some bad music: most of his post '72 material is dreck, and some of his hippie period stuff when the band was known as Tyrannosaurus Rex, hasn't aged all that well and/or can be too "shrieky." On the other hand, The Slider was a good album and Electric Warrior was GREAT. He had a lot of cool 45's, and some of the Tyrannosaurus Rex stuff, like "Once Upon The Seas of Abyssinia," "Warlord of the Royal Crocodiles," and "Elemental Child," to name a few were fine. A weird lyricist in that although he could be pretentious, his lyrics, influenced by everyone from Donovan to Tolkien, from Dylan to Syd Barrett, nonetheless somehow worked. Got better as a guitarist as he went along, and although sometimes derided as a one hit wonder here, he had four top 100 singles and two of his records made the top 40.In Britain, he is one of the biggest selling acts of all time. Uneven, but brilliant at his best.

Apparently a strange and not-so-likable guy, but nevertheless a huge musical talent. Give him the green light, but don't open the door to some of his protegees (ie. Gary Glitter, et al)

Marc Bolan's music has thrived each year since his passing how many -living or dead- artists can claim that in the past year they were covered by bands on 4 major films (The Brilliant "Billy Elliot" film centred around Bolan's music), 2 films with their own music used as well as 7 major magazine covers He is the 20th & 21st CENTURY BOY his best music was just what some here "giggle" about he created POP songs , he created some of the Classic Pop songs of all time -not an easy job Rick

Marc Bolan did his own thing and did it well.Nothing earth-shattering,but deserves some credit for his off-beat tunes.I like the interesting percussion that hovers in the background on many of their songs.

T.Rex's best 10 songs stand up well against those of any other band in history. The sex-thump of T.Rex's music and Bolan's weird femme vocals and his nonsense lyrics ("I have never never nailed a nose before, that's how the garden grows") creates a unique chemical reaction that few have been able to reproduce.

I call you on the telephone my voice too rough with cigarettes. I sometimes feel I should just go home but I'm dealing with a memory that never forgets I love to hear you say my name especially when you say yes I got your body right now on my mind but I drunk myself blind to the sound of old T-Rex To the sound of old T-Rex and Who's Next lyrics by Pete Townshend

T-Rex were rather childish in my opinion in their whole image and style...I think people got over it rather quickly. Oh and they weren't even that well-known anyway.

Influential, but not consistent enough to be considered. Even his best albums have stinkers on them. Marc deserves recoginition for writing amazing songs, but because of his own inability to write a whole great album, I can't say he deserves this.

Marc changed the face of music. His influence has been felt by millions, through bands like Suede, Supergrass, Smiths, and RCO who were influenced by his sound, to people like Mike Patton and Siouxsie Sioux, who cover his tracks in every band they work in. I think the only thing that stopped this happening earlier was his premature death, but the body of work he left behind is more than worth this level of recognition.

It is high time that Marc Bolan was taken seriously and recognised for the genius he was, not to mention his influence on the Music Industry as a whole. Sadly, he is often mentioned in the same sentence as The Bay City Rollers, Suzi Quatro etc He was however, in a different league to acts such as these!

A genius and an innovator of glam and punk before bowie. Great surrealistic and gothic songwriter, as well as a mainstream arena rocker. The boppin elf BELONGS in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame without any doubt!
