ItemImageTommy James & the Shondells — the very mention of their name, even to someone who doesn't really know their music, evokes images of dances and the kind of fun that rock & roll represented before it redefined itself on more serious terms. And between 1966 and 1969, the group enjoyed 14 Top 40 hits, most of which remain among the most eminently listenable (if not always respected) examples of pop/rock. The group was almost as much of a Top 40 radio institution of the time as Creedence Clearwater Revival... Read More... at allmusic.com

Yes, they had a string of hits, but, like the Grass Roots for example, I put them somewhere in that netherworld between serious musice and straight-off-the-assembly-line pop. Nothing groundbreaking.

Can't believe they're not in and that they're rated so low on this list.

This was entertainment folks! Whats wrong with that? Tommy James and the Shondels simply made fun music...and a lot of it. Even though it was light, (sometimes just this side of bubblegum), most has held up well over the years. How many generations will rock to Mony Mony??? Chrimson and Clover is still worth a listen and Sweet Cherry Wine, still is so very, very fine. Their top 40 library exceeds 20 hits, all produced during that golden, late 60's, early 70's era.

If any Bubble Gum rockers deserve to be in then these guys do, but I'm not sure they really deserve to be in the hall.

This is a huge miss. Crimson and Clover, Crystal Blue Persuasion, Mony Mony, I Think We're Alone Now, Hanky Panky, Sweet Cherry Wine. Sure it is pop, but these were big big songs.

It's a travesty that this artist does not even get mentioned for a hall of fame nomination. The committee is just baised against top 40 bands that made fun rock and roll, as opposed to bands that made (supposedly) significant albums. This artist has at least 3 or 4 songs that are classics, incl;uding the greatest dance rock song (Mony, Mony) of all time.

Definitely should be in the RIRHOF. Great songs like Crystal Blue, Crimson and Clover, Sweet Cherry Wine, Draggin the Line, Out of the Blue, Mirage and of course the clasic I Think Were Alone Now
