Sat Dec 29 2012Reveered and hated all at once. Buffett, rumoured to be a distant relation to money-magnet Warren Buffett, certainly has the family's Midas Touch. He has sold out more concerts than most and turned his tired parrot music into a billion dollar machine. Not my cup of tea, but you can't argue with sun, sandles, suds and song approach.

Tue Sep 28 2010To all those denying Jimmy a place in the Rock Hall of Fame.... and Chic, Donna Summer, and ABBA have all contributed more to Rock? F*** you and the Rock Hall of Fame committee.

Fri Oct 24 2008I'm not a big fan, but there are days that I can put his stuff on, lay in the sun with a cooler nearby, and feel happily and unrepentantly lethargic."I made enough money to buy Miami, but I pissed it away as fast..."

Sat Sep 27 2008LOVE, LOVE, LOVE his music!! No reason he SHOULDN'T already be there. While Habs10 feels Jimmy is overpaid from touring ~ tell me which band isn't! Yes, I am an admitted ParrotHead.

Tue Jun 19 2007What's made Buffett a lasting artist isn't necessarily his huge party tunes. Those are the product of a shrewd businessman. It's his incredible ability to write a ballad and tell a story. For every raucous tune, there's at least two that turn inward and are all about introspection. I challenge anyone who thinks Buffett has no talent to listen to the likes of "Death of an Unpopular Poet", "Sending the Old Man Home", "When the Coast is Clear", or even the popular "Captain and the Kid" and make that same statement. You don't sustain a career that successful and lasting on stupid drinking tunes. He hates singing them and has long stated he wished he could just play ballads the rest of his life."You may be a much better guitar player than me, but I'm a poet and a businessman. Someday I'm going to be rich and famous, and you're still going to be working as a bouncer at this bar."

Tue Jun 19 2007I can't really listen to him unless I'm drunk for some reason...

Wed May 09 2007I think biffybuffer must have gone to a restaurant called Jimmy's Buffet when he was in Vegas and had a lousy prime rib or something. I'm not sure how Hitler figures into the story though. As for Jimmy Buffet, I'll grant you that he is a world away from Igor Stavinsky or Tom Waits in terms of being a musical genius and he is no Bill Withers as a singer. But he never aspired to being more than a guy having a good time who welcomed anyone with a bottle of rum and the right attitude to come along for a two hour cruise.
by biffybuffer
Wed May 09 2007He is the worst musician and his voice sucks and his songs suck but he is successful? That isn't a very good argument. You know why your argument sucks? Hitler was very successful for a while but he sucked at writing songs. Just because you are successful at making a bunch of drunk morons love you doesn't make you a musician. All you people bash Hitler because you are jealous because he ruled a few countries and you aren't as successful as he was after he tricked a bunch of drunks into liking him. Doesn't that make a lot of sense? I went to watch Buffet at Vegas. It said it was free. All I got was Prime Rib. He sucks.

Wed May 09 2007Agreed, Irish...once a person has trampled through the corporate/government version of reality to expose the Ken Lay behind the curtains, Jimmy Buffett kinda sets reality back on its tenuously-balanced fulcrum. Jimmy Buffett is just what the doctor ordered for recovering success-o-holics, who are driven by some crazy Judeo-Christian mind control (and perhaps status-hungry spouses) that success equates to ownership beyond what any SANE person would consider enough.

Fri Nov 10 2006Buffet rocks, stop trying to be artistic and intelligent and have a little fun! Nothing clears away the rainy day blues like a few buffet beach songs, and he is an awesome entertainer. I'm a lifelong fan!

Fri Jul 14 2006The strong appeal that many have for this self-deprecating lounge lizard/ beach bum's musical shtick eludes me entirely. For Hawaiian shirt wearing, hat like the guy who used to hang around with the Hawaiian Punch guy on those commercials, drunken fiftysomethings trying to pick up chicks half their age with braggadocio and combovers, tucking in their beerbellies in tourist trap bars it must be great background music though.

Fri May 05 2006Life long Jimmy fan! First got it in 75 and been along for the ride ever sence. He went to Paris and Pirate looks at 40 are life stories. Love his duet with Nancy Griffin on Someone I used to Love. Yea he is a sell out self promoter so what its america baby.

Tue Feb 07 2006Just visited the rock & roll hall of fame. They make a point of showing how country, folk, blues, gospel and R&B; all combined to create rock. A new art for that is constantly evolving. If they truly believe this, then there is no better example than Jimmy Buffett, who combines folk, country, reggae, calypso, and rock influences into a new form of beach rock and sensitive ballads. With over 30 albums for over 30 years, his body of work has been more significant on rock than many who are in the hall. With displays of Britney Spears, INSYNc, Timberlak and Hanson? throughout the hall, surely there is room for someone who's success has outlasted many of their short runs put together. The Coral Reefer band has always been one of the most musically talented groups. It's no wonder rock and country artists love to play with Jimmy. Pioneering a new sound and becoming successful without being played on the radio should be rewarded. Anyone who takes cheapshots at Jimmy obviously has hardly... Read more

Tue Oct 11 2005Well aparently not too many people in this review board like to have a good time! Jimmy Buffett is all about painting a picture of a place where you can escape from your stressful lifestyle. Yea so what if he smoked a little pot, it doesn't make him a bad person! He may not have the best voice of all time or any crazy guitar solos, but he does have a very successful career. All you people out there that bash him are probably just jealous because he lives a very successful lifestyle and he had one hell of a time working his way to the top. What you people really need to do is find Margaritaville. Its a place that you have to discover on your own. Once you find it, you'll always have it in your soul. I tip my margarita to you Jimmy. Keep it real!

Tue May 17 2005Part of the baby boomer propoganda machine! He's terrible!
by southparker9
Tue Apr 19 2005Not much of a rocker. I can't see him even considered. If it was based on fan base he would have been in. Parrotheads would love to see him in.

Tue Apr 19 2005Parrot Heads unite!!!! The man's cool and laid back Caribbean style is unique and we should celebrate with a 'rita and cheesburger!

Tue Apr 12 2005He has created his on genre of music.

Thu Mar 31 2005Unfortunately, Jimmy is only known to the mass public for cheeseburgers, margaritas, and Key West. Like most under-rated and unappreciated artist, the public is not familiar with his entire body of work. Most of Jimmy's songs are deep, poetic ballads that speak to people's souls and emotions. This combined with his phenomenal concert draw (one of the top, if not the top) for decades is more then enough to make Jimmy deserving of the Hall of Fame. It should also be mentioned that Jimmy continues to be a major influence on other artist and has given several their start in the music business.
by ledzep44
Sun Mar 06 2005No way! All this guy ever sings about is getting drunk and food (what kind of idiot would make a song called Cheeseburgers In Paradise), unless of course your Weird Al, but that's not the case here.
by skizero
Fri Mar 04 2005he's rather stupid and pointless in terms of musical talent or songwriting. has built a career on this so-called carefree beach lifestyle that seems to appeal to people of the late baby boomer persuasion. Buffett's songs usually make me sick when i hear them on the radio.

Sat Feb 12 2005As a Parrothead, I beleive that Jimmy personifies how we as people want to live our lives. His lyrics are not too deep, but they are fun and they make me laugh. Isn't that why we listen to music and go to concerts, so the realities of life don't have to bring us down? I love Jimmy Buffett, his music, and his way of life. I try to emulate this every day of my life. He makes the world a better place. He should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He is my true hero! submitted by Mike

Wed Sep 08 2004Jimmy Buffett is easy to peg as overated. He is a less talented singer, songwriter and musician than many of his contemporaries who came to fame in the 1970s. However, as their careers have wound down to playing the county fair circuit, Buffett is still among the top grossing acts touring today. This is despite the fact that other than riding the coattails of Alan Jackson to a No. 1 country hit last year (Its 5 OClock Somewhere), he has not had a top-ten charting single since Margaritaville in 1977. He is an engaging entertainer, shameless self promoter and a savvy businessman who is now a cottage industry unto himself. Talk about a sell-out, I can think of no bigger sell-out in the history modern pop music. He used to make fun of Disneyland and now he is Disneyland. His latest compilation CDs are tired as are many of the songs he feels compelled to play at every concert. And yet all the while the Parrotheads eat it up like coconut shrimp. I should know... I am one. A parr... Read more

Sat Jun 19 2004Of course I'm going to give Jimmy Buffett five stars. I'm a Parrothead and have been since before I knew what a Parrothead was. I've grown up listening to this stuff. The man's got talent. I don't know of many musicians that had their first big hit three decades ago that are still around today... well, except for Aerosmith. He's a businessman, a family man, a storyteller, a fisherman, a pilot, etc. etc. Sure the majority of his songs are about the same things, but that's ok. It's escapism. Who cares? People can bitch about how much he sucks till they're blue in the face, but true Parrotheads just don't give a damn and that's all that really matters. Way to go Jimmy. :-)

Sat Nov 01 2003The guy reminds me of your buddy back in high school that still smokes weed and lives in his parents basement at age 50. Mr pirate (yeah, right) lucked out and made millions from his music so now he can support his arrested development life style. What moron would stand up in a pro basketball game and use the F-word in front of his kids? No class. Or here's my favorite 50 year old acts like he's 12 story; taken from his own book "A Pirate Turns 50". Apparently Mr Pirate, being bored with his Caribbean life, decides to call the US State Department and inquire about travelling, in his own plane, to some 3rd world country in South America. The State Dept warns him that travel there would be very dangerous because of armed guerilla activity relating to the cocaine trade. Now any half way intelligent person would heed this warning but what does Mr Pirate do? Not only does he ignore his own government warning, but he heads down there with his wife and small children in tow!!!!!! What an irr... Read more

Mon Aug 18 2003Music for douchebags. Nothing meritorious about this in any way. Is this guy supposed to be funny? Vapid content, idiotic lyrics, wussed-out musical ideas. His politics are totally inconsequential to me, and why should they matter? What matters is this guy's one of the biggest no-talents ever to make it to vinyl. "Cheeseburger in Paradise" should be the Retard's National Anthem.

Wed May 28 2003Yeah who doesn't like him????
by burntisland
Sun Dec 29 2002Now if you want to talk about someone who sucks, Buffett is it! This guy is the biggest fraud ever. Mr. Florida....Indeed,....I laugh in his face. How many of you know he is not a Florida Native? He came from Alabama with a trunkoad of crap. His contribution to the beach scene?...The Three B's....Too much Beer, Too much Bull****, Too many Bums.

Wed Nov 27 2002How has he managed to make a living doing such terrible work? Perhaps the roadies actually are bigtime smugglers and that finances the armies of idiots who flockto his "shows".
