Usually being called soulless is an insult to a band; in this case it was their strong suit. The Cars' music is as sleek and sexy as Paulina Porizkova, who also hasn't aged a bit. Bonus point for a strong reunion album. The RRHF needs some nerds.

Of course. Some of their songs have become rock and roll standards. Too bad there can never be a reunion with all the original line-up since Benjamin Orr is no longer with us.

I was looking at the list of artists that are already in and saw that The Pretenders and Blondie have already been inducted. I don't think either of them compare to The Cars. I saw a review that said their best song was now being used in a commercial....yeah, because the song was that good and has stood the test of time. Not sure what was meant though...there is more than one out there still being used. Get them in there!

Shocking that they're not already in. So many positive elements to their music, especially the songs sung by Ben Orr. Such BS that there are ANY one star ratings here. The Cars appealed to such a wide range of people. Made rock and new wave accessable to so many. Let's Go, Just What I Needed, It's All I Can Do, Bye Bye Love, Moving In Stereo, Best Friend's Girl, Good Times Roll, Candy-O, Shake It Up, Since You're Gone, Drive, Magic, Hello Again, Tonight She Comes, etc... All the current bands they influenced. WTF?

What's really weird is: "Why aren't they at least nominated?". They 100% deserve it more than say the Stooges - yet the Stooges have been nominated at like 5 times and now they're finally in - why don't The Cars at least get nominated?

For a group not in, no band has more time in rotation in the collection of their owners than the first 2 albums. They were so fresh in 1978, a quantum leap at the time. When I see the snobs that put the lesser known, and much less talented groups in the HOF I just laugh.

It was a tough being a band in the late 70s early 80s when punk rock was growing and classic rock was dying. They have a classic style that's clean and original although sometimes it seems to me to be contorted and out of sync. Still the HOF idiots shouldn’t have snubbed them this long.

It's hard to believe the Talking Heads and Blondie are already in but the Cars aren't. Their career wasn't long enough to deserve it? Excuse me? They were together for at least 7 years (1978-86). That's as long as the Police. By the way, I liked the Talking Heads, Blondie and especially the Police but my point is don't say 7 years together is not long enough to deserve induction. Ok, now more for why they should be in- their sound was unique. Their 1st 4 albums were awesome. Most of their last studio was good. Looking back, it was an attempt to move forward, though their sound was already a little before their time. Their songs were fun- "Just What I Needed," "My Best Friend's Girl," "Candy O," "Let's Go," "Shake It Up," "Touch And Go," "Magic," to name a few. They also hosted the Midnight Special once and just let their favorite bands speak for themselves. And if anyone remembers, they were the winners of the Best Video Award at 1st Annual MTV Awards their video "You Might Think" back... Read more

No way. Their best song was an advertising jingle for the now defunct Circuit City. Their great moment, though, was their hit "Moving in Stereo" being used as background music for the classic pool scene in the movie Fast Times at Ridgemont High  featuring Phoebe Cates and Judge Reinhold.

Back in the 70's when I saw them in concert, I remember telling my friends, if it wasn't for the synth the sound was empty. Two years or so I saw the new Cars with Todd Rundgren and Kasim Sultan on tour. Good show, rock and roll but they don't belong in the Hall of Fame. Todd does!

If blondie and the pretenders can be in the HOF for New Wave, then there is no reason the definitive new wave band, The Cars, should not be included too!

One of the best rock bands ever! How did Blondie get in when they didn't? Phenominal band. They are more deserved than most and should have in their first year of eligibility.

One of the most groundbreaking bands of the late 70s/early 80s. You just felt a little bit cooler when you listened to the Cars. Every time you turned on the radio, you could hear this great band, and their music still holds up today!

I only ever was aware of their song Drive (or whatever) and seeing it on the 1985 Live Aid show.  It was very moving and for that reason alone they will get four stars from me.  No reason at all why they should not go in the Hall of Fame.  I am sure there are may far less worthy already in it!

Strong band but extraordinary tiresome after four or five albums. Indecipherable lyrics that sound deep at first but quickly wearing. When they were great, they were great. But strictly a band of its time, and addition of Todd Rundgren this time around hasn't refreshed anything.

I agree with BenjaminBurns 100%! I don't like Tom Cruise, but I don't sit around and gossip about him! People need to get a life and stop being jelous, asinine, idiots! The Cars rule and all you wannabe's drool!

Why do some of you guys sit around and gossip about them? Ric was multi-talented, you know writing all those songs. Ben had the voice, Elliot knew how to play, Greg was in the groove, and David rocked away! There is not one of their songs that I don't like. They will R-O-C-K forever!

Bunch of radio friendly, sanitized trendy pop crap with no real substance to it. Take a few guys with disco haircuts and suits, create some slapdash pop melodies, add some campy keyboard sounds and some semi-comical vocalizations by that Ric Ocasek idiot and you'll sell, sell, sell!!! Pure formula dung for the "let's get dressed up sharp, go clubbing and get a pina colada" 80's yuppie crowd. Very forgettable.
