Tue Aug 25 2009Really heavy metal and rock and roll are pretty much the same. Rock is one of the best kinds of music to listen to, and there are a variety of songs. BTW, Happy B-Day to Gene Simmons!!

Tue Aug 25 2009Rock'n'roll is simply another label for rhythm'n'blues.Rock And Roll is apparently any music played on electric guitars, and even that might be a bit too narrow a definition."The problem with bands today is they don't know who Howlin' Wolf is." - Arthur Stevenson of Sea Monster

Sun Aug 23 2009OLDER R&R, Not the new stuff passing itself off as Rock and Roll.

Tue Dec 30 2008Rock and Roll is the stepping stone to the modern age and mainstream music from the ever elegant Rhythm & Blues/Jazz; it represented also a change in mentality as people chose to celebrate rather than reminisce (the former is definitely R & R, the latter is undeniably Blues), and an ethnic/cultural bridge allowing a unique kind of vibe (AfroAmerican music) to reach a larger audience. There are so many different kind of rock and roll today, admittedly not many now adhere to the same principles as of the old, however who can deny that rock and roll is essentially about rebelling and having fun, whether old school or "fresh out of school"?

Sat Aug 23 2008how is anything better than rock? wait its not

Wed Aug 13 2008Rock and Roll is king, come on admit it. Chuck Berry, Elvis Presley, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd, Radiohead, Primus, Pearljam. Tell me you haven't listened to every single one of those bands. Rock has touched every other music there is including jazz, blues, classical, whatever. I would say though that there is room in today's rock and roll for a completely new sound. People seem to be getting tired of the same old style of rock or something.

Thu Apr 24 2008By now, at least in terms of describing current music, this phrase is practically meaningless: and you could break it up into a thousand subcategories and still not be really able to describe a lot of bands and artists. But yes, I do enjoy a lot of it...

Tue Jan 15 2008I'm not sure about rock and roll but I do like classic rock and even some more modern stuff, although metal is sorta my thing.

Thu Apr 26 2007I loved it since the late 50's and all through the 60's. Enjoyed listening and playing it. My son has now taken up the "quest" along with jazz and classical in school.

Sat Feb 24 2007I like all kinds of Rock & Roll. I like heavier rock & roll groups like Led Zeppelin and softer rock & roll groups like Dave Matthews Band. The things I like most about Rock & Roll is the guitar solos, the jams and the lyrics.

Wed Dec 06 2006as some have said there are too many broad and vague genres here and 'rock and roll' is one. are we talking about r n r in its purest sense i.e. Chuck Berry, Little Richard etc or in a more general sense, to cover all mainstream popular music styles that aren't reggae, soul, r n b, funk etc.?

Sat Nov 11 2006Rock is straight up gay. Its queer music. Everything about it is gay the lingo, the sound of it and the clothes. Whats so good about bunch of white guys with tight pants and make up screaming into a mic like little school girls?. Thanks to rock there is now a such thing as gothics and lame emo's who dont even know the real defination of depressed is. and with all that being said i just dont get why some people say "this is the best genre"
by bassface
Thu Jun 29 2006theres a lot of good rock out there, lot of bad rock out there too though. Anybody else think this site needs to have ratings on sub-genre's of music? It's very difficult to rate such broad genre's like this.

Wed May 11 2005Rock & Roll is on top of the favourite music type list where it rightfully belongs . Rock & Roll has inspired multiple generations & continues to do so ,the music might not be the same as it was in the 60's, 70's, 80's & even the 90's ,but it can still get the blood pumping & the mind working .Rember Rock & Roll aint noise pollution

Sat May 07 2005I like Soft Rock, Light Rock, Hard Rock (most of these from the 80's)Alternative Rock and some Folk Rock. It's great! Also is cool, when you mix Rock and Jazz and Classical to end up with New Age!

Wed Apr 27 20054.5 the kind of music I listen to most often. What I like about Rock and roll is there is such a wide variety to listen to. so many groups fall under this category unless they get more specific and break it down some more. i am more into the softer rock myself. but considering how far back rock and roll goes back. a lot of groups to choose from and a lot of talent too.

Wed Feb 16 2005Blues had a baby and they called it rock and roll. Very true. It is and always will be my favorite. I think more than all the other contemporary genres of music it at least keeps musicians honest. While pop and especially rap is almost completely digital and definitely crap, you have to be able to play live to sell rock and roll. Ofcourse nowadays the bands are getting away with some really weak musicianship.. that is the fault of the corporate record selling whores of the world. The new hard rock now called metal is trying to ruin what rock n roll originally stood for which is a FUN escape. Not your format to whine and bitch about your addiction or your slut mother or you abusive fathers. Get over it and get back to sex, partying and living loud for the moment!!or in the words of my generation, sex, drugs and rock n roll! (perhaps we can do without the drug part..)but we all lived it and I would not change that time of my life for anything.

Sun Jul 11 2004The best type of music. Favorite type of rock and roll would be classic rock like the beatles etc.

Mon Apr 26 2004Best music in the world, IF the musicians write their own music and play their own instruments. I cant stand pop, were the artists do not tend to play their own instruments. Pop rock is an oxymoron. But real, solid rock n roll is the best thing ever.

Fri Feb 13 2004So many songs, so many artists. A great impact on our culture. It ranges from being excellent to just plain being awful. There is something for anyone who is a fan of rock and roll.

Thu Feb 12 2004I love rock and roll very much, but the genre has been exhausted. It is a limited form of music with incredible energy. (1. guitar 2. percussion 3. bass 4. lead singer, et. al.) I can't imagine my life without it, but I can't see it going anywhere else. Good art form clearly on the downslide.
by rebelyell1861
Mon Oct 06 2003Though it's extremely broad and generalized (ranging from Chuck Berry to The Doors, to Lynyrd Skynyrd, and so on...), for the most part it's simply the best overall type of music.

Wed Jul 23 2003Rock is the definition of American music.Even the great composer,Leonard Bernstein loved rock.He found it to hold more varieties than the old composers of music had,and I believe that this is true.Power chords take the chromatic scale to a whole new level.Plus, the performance value of all rock genres is a step above other modern performers, great example of "The infinite variety of music".

Tue Jul 22 2003Kind of mixed baggage. I love the hard rock bands of the '80s and MELODIC (as opposed to the talentless DISCORDANT speed, thrash, and death metal of today) heavy metal of the '70s and '80s. But rock, in general, I don't care for whether it be classic rock or especially today's punk, grunge, and Alt. Rock. Elvis Presley started something strange with his rock. He was a weird moron, himself, but don't even get me started on that crap.

Sat Jun 28 2003Rock its the best and always will be

Sat Jun 28 2003Best kind of music in the world!!!

Thu Jun 26 2003To me, the guitar is the greatest instrument that was ever invented. It's one of , if not, the most universal instrument out there. It can be played in any form of music. Add two other univeral instruments (bass and drums), and you got a combination that can create endless wonders of instrumental beauty.

Sun Jun 15 2003When it comes to rock, I favor adult contemporary soft rock, urban pop and smooth R&B ballads. Rock covers a wide span, and has so many sub-genres (rockabilly, mellow, acid, urban contemporary) that I really can't rate rock-and-roll as a single style of music, especially since rock has constantly been changing ever since its roots in the early 1950s. I like most rock music so long as it doesn't get too edgy. If it drifts too far into heavy-metal, underground stuff, it ceases to be music.

Sat Jun 14 2003Depends on who you are classifying as rock and roll. If you are talking about Elvis, the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, the Stones, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Hendrix, Def Leppard, etc, then it doesn't get any better. If you are talking about singers like Michael Bolton, NSync, Celine Dion, Backstreet Boys, New Kids on the Block and that kind of crap, then I don't want any part of it.
