Great console

Something you'd expect from a great console that meets the true capabilities of modern technology. Good job, Microsoft. Good job.

I never liked XBox, PS2 is a much better option.

I'm going to give this system 5 stars. I never buoght 1 however I was given a fucked up 1. And the optical eye that read the games was all sorts of fucked and would sometimes freeze up on me. I tore the case apart and played the system all the time and it would freeze sometimes. But considering how fucked this system was .. for a FREE product It rocked haha!

Needed more RPGs/Adventure games

This console plays some good games, but it seems kinda big and noisy.

A decent system, but I preferred the game selection for the PS2.

I didn't like it when it first came out and I don't like it now, not many exclusive titles are on it that I would consider AAA's, other than Forza, Halo, DOA, and Ninja Gaiden there isn't much that comes to mind. If your in your mid 40's or so I can understand why you love this system as it has a ton of those very simplistic sports games that no real gaming fan would enjoy. But for the college student geek I wouldn't get it, the GC had a ton of exclusive Triple A titles, and the PS2 just had a ton of games period, the Xbox doesn't have much. Do yourself a huge FAVOR, get a 360 and buy the games I mentioned above and play them on your 360, you really aren't missing much. What I do give credit to the original Xbox though is that it was the first system to incorporate a hard drive into console gaming which is pretty much mandatory in all the 7th gen consoles, and that M$ introduced the first MAJOR online gaming network for consoles, which is a huge step forward for gaming.

The XBox is by far the best console of the sixth-gen. Its graphical abilities by far outdo those of the GameCube and PlayStation 2. Other than that, after I got used to it, I preferred the controller, and also the range of games it has which don't appear on the other consoles, for example Halo, KOTOR, Battlefront, etc... Its internet access is also superior, with the XBox Live Arcade being the most complete online experience around. The XBox is just in a league of its own...

I have so far enjoyed playing games on the X Box, especially the GTA series,  Halo, KOTR 2, and Fable.  The graphics for the games are good also. I have to admit, it took me awhile to get use to the controller.

I used to own it before it stopped working. Great graphics, poor game choices as oppossed to PS2. I really liked playing my own music from the hard drive which seemed to have tons of space. Forza was way better than Gran Tourismo though. I hated to support Microsoft.

My rating reflects the value of the Original Xbox today. This may not have been a very good gaming platform when it originally hit the market but is now the platform of greatest potential after application of a "mod". Finding an original xbox for less than retail is like finding gold.

I just bought a refurbished Xbox last week, I think its best bang for your buck that you can find anywhere. Graphics far surpass my old PS2, games are much better, overall I still think this is the best system out there right now for the money.

I rated the Xbox a 3 because the only game i have on Xbox is Halo 2. I love Halo 2. Everyother game i have played on Xbox sucks. The Xbox has pretty good graphics though. The system is just to big and not enough good games. Playstation 2 is more fun.

I like Xbox just becuase of Halo 2 and Xbox Live. Those are the only games i play for Xbox. I think Ps2 is cooler becuase of all the games i love to play on it and those games aren't for xbox. my xbox live name is cupidkiller9

gamecube and ps 2 bow down to X box, gamecube is full of the little kid games and ps 2 doesnt really have any main menu, they have all of the best titles on it to, from morrowind to kotor II, X box has deffintly made a name on history

I played it /once/ in a Wal-mart. Fable looks like an awesome game,but seriously.From what I here,it has so many FPS games it makes your head spin.And not everyone likes them. And the original controller is the single most uncomfortable and awkward controller in the history of video game controllers.It's half the size of your standard Dell keyboard,and the six buttons on the right are placed so awkwardly I'd have to look down at the thing every time I wanted my guy to do something. The rectangular NES controller is more comfortable than this monster. And please,stop preaching how wonderful it is,and then back up these claims by mentioning Halo and it's '1337ness'.It's stupid to base a system's funability potential on one game alone. Great system, great games, but just as NekoFaust states, the controler is kinda clunky. I had to relearn several familiar games when I started using an X-Box and the controller impedes my tactical prowess on Halo at times.

This is more powerful than PS2 and Nintendo Gamecube, so it will have better graphics and faster loading times. This is Microsoft's first time developing a gaming system, so they do not have as many developers as the PS2. However, they have made Halo a hit, and that should help keep their fan base for the Xbox 360. The only negative with the Xbox is that popular game franchises such as Resident Evil, Metal Gear Solid, and Final Fantasy do not appear for the Xbox. I hear that a Final Fantasy game will be made for the Xbox 360 however, so this is good news.

Much better than ps2

I held out on getting an XBox until recently. I hadn't played the system much at all until then. Being the PS2 fanboy that I am, I had relied on my limited experience with the system to form my opinion. Of course, I slammed it. Now that I've sat down and played Morrowind, KOTOR, Fable, etc., I can honestly say that the XBOX easily nudges out the PS2 as the better system. Lots has been said about the controller, but after using it for awhile, it's hard to go back to the PS2 controller. It feels flimsy in comparison. I feel like I cheated myself for not buying one sooner.

Awesome system. Fable and Halo 2 are one of the best games ever made.

SICK!!! This is a really nice system loads faster then PS2, plays DVD's and has Great grahics!! The only bad things are not as many game choices as PS2 has and plus its alot bigger then the newer PS2.. But i would highly suggest this system to anyone.

An easy candidate for the worst video gaming console of all time. Bill Gates should have never thrown his rich hat into the video gaming arena. The X-Box is a hideous looking beast that is oversized and plain ugly. It is also unreliable and noisy. The controller is a monster than is hard to handle, but easy to drop. I have to admit I love the colored, gel-filled buttons though. The game selection is dreadful. Like Sony, Microsoft has no Mario or Sonic-like mascot to lift its gaming library to greatness. Instead, it relies on Halo, easily the most overrated game ever. I played the First Person Shooter and was bored instantly. Where's the creativity? Where's the character? And, when do I get to save the world? Those were all questions I asked when playing Halo. Why did I buy this? That's the question you should be asking yourself if you bought Microsoft's Ick-Box over Nintendo's immortal GameCube.

The XBOX is far superior to any other platform as far as performance and the availability of a hard drive (in which you can save entire games if you have a modded box). WHEN HALO 2 IS RELEASED IT WILL ACCEPT ITS THRONE ABOVE ALL OTHER PLATFORMS AS THE GREATEST EVER CREATED.

This sytem is phenominal. Of course it's attracted. Probably some people would rate this terrible because of it's design or it was made by Microsoft. It doesn't matter of it's design or whoever made it. It really matter's of how fun it is. And you critizers probably never even played one. PLus Nicklp73's right. This is better than GameCube or PS2. I like PS2 but GameCube sorta sucks. I really urge all of you to drop the GameCube and buy this system. There's also better games for the X-Box, LIke Shadow ops an Halo. It's awesome, trust me. This is a good system, but I don't think that it can top PS2. Sure, the graphics are insanely nice, but still that is the only thing that is better. The controller is somewhat bulky and the system is somewhat large... but not much larger than PS2, especially in length. No memory cards... which is okay, but I like to steal my friends card so i can skip to the end of storyline games. I would say that PS2 is only better by 0.50 if it was on a scale of 0-10. I like the fact of the 4 controller slots, but NOT the controllers. The DVD remote is about 20-30$, which isn't really that bad.. considering that a PS2 DVD remote (not REQUIRED, but is nice to have) is also around the same price. Otherwise, I still think that this is a great system with few flaws. PS2 and gamecube are also good, but I think PS2 just is a little better than all 3. Still, I really like this system.

It is awesome and I hate those dumn asses that hate it just because of what it looks like. they probably dont even have one. Best graphics. Also when it came out dvds were already out and why would u just get another if u already have one. if u dont, 30$ for a dvd player is pretty cheap and with a remote too. also Halo rules!!!!!!!!!

X-Box& PS2 Rock 2nite

Xbox is a Waste of Technology nothing else.

Xbox is the best console today or in the past.Its crushed the gamecube and the only reason it hasnt done the same to ps2 is because of the hype.Thats all the ps2 is the games are crap and look awful some are ok.I mean i have a ps2 and gamecube and have 3 games a piece for both systems.Xbox I have around 20 games and 10 on xbox live.Why the games look and play so much better and xbox live is the only way to play on line.Plus for the price it is at now its a steal everything you need is in one box.It may be number 2 right now but xbox and xbox live is the future of gaming.

No point in just calling this system Good when it's Great. This beats the PS2 in every single way. The graphics are better, the processor is faster, internal memory, and you can copy music. There are many other great things. Both the PS2 and Xbox are equally guilty for making you buy optional parts. The PS2 needs memory cards and the Xbox needs a DVD Playback Kit. They both cost around 30 dollars. The controller is also a little better for adult hands. The games may be more limited, but they are better, especially since I am an RPG hater.

Man this system sucks so much.They have no smart games most are shoot them up killing games.It looks like a old v.c.r.

i think that xbox is better than any other system that its competing with. playstation2 and gamecube SUCK. anything that's above it in the ratings doesn't deserve it. plus xbox has better games. such as halo. which is only for xbox.

I have an Xbox. Before buying any system I compared the PS2 and the Xbox by looking at their technical specifications. Yeah, okay, call me a computer geek or whatever because I am a software engineer. I chose to buy it over PS2 for the very same reasons this author stated in a side-by-side comparison. Save money, buy either a playstation 2 or a gamecube. It just seems to make more sense.

By far the best system on the market. I'm so tired of the whiners saying that the PS2 has better games. No... the PS2 has MORE games. In 2003 the X-Box has greatly improved its game library, and any game that is on both the PS2 and the X-Box looks superior on the latter. Plus the X-Box has a pretty decent-sized hard drive that can hold countless game files and loads of songs. The Game Cube sucks, it can't do anything other than play games. But comparing the X-Box to the PS2 is like comparing a Thai hooker (XB) to an American hooker (PS2). You get more bang for the buck with the X-Box. (Thai hooker).

We got our XBox in September of last year (2002). With it we received one game: Halo. Three months after we received our X-Box, it broke and was no longer able to play DVDs. After taking it in to get fixed, we unfortunately lost all of our data due to the lack of having a removable storage device (such as a memory card). The lack of removeable storage also makes it impossible to bring your data with you if you want to play at a friend's house, lest you do not wish to spend $20 on a memory card. The design is very bulky (more so than every other system in production currently), the controller design is the worst one I have ever held (and being a serious gamer I can realistically claim that I've held almost every one - I've even logged some playing time on the ancient Ataris), that comes close to making it anti-ergonomical.
