Sony PlayStation 2 (PS2)

One of my favorite all-time purchases. durable, affordable, lots of utility as dvd player and game console and best of all - has a huge library of inexpensive, fun games for any type of player except the most hard core gamers. Excellent!

Great system, now a bit outdated, but still has a various video games that people of all ages can enjoy. No problem with the system at all.

this game systems owned last generation now it is not that well loved due to the newer generation but i still love this system

When it first came out, I thought it had near the impact of the NES. The anticipation for this system was unrivaled.

I bought one of these just to play Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas on. The design is nice but the graphics just weren't that sharp for me. Loved the backward compatibility -- that's really unique in the console gaming industry.

This is the only console that I have ever owned. It had the right game selections, and by the time I bought one it wasn't that expensive. It's unlikely that I'll ever buy another console, as the newer ones are just too expensive.

The best console for gaming ever released. It has lived a long plentiful life and is still alive. Companies continue to release better games for the PS2 pushing the limits of its aging processors. Games like FF12 which have graphics 100x better than games that came out when PS2 was brand new. Its amazing how they keep managing to push the PS2's capabilities. While the PS3 will eventually surpass it just as the PS2 like the PS1 the PS2 will forever have a special place for all gamers im sure.

i love the PS2, but spend more of my time on the computer. Kingdom Hearts II is one of the greater series of its time. along with FF and Zelda. i havent played FF or Zelda, but from what people say; im sure they are both great games. ^^

I don't own the PS2 (now that it's cheaper, I might buy it), but the games, I have played on it, were pretty good.

damn i love my ps2 it has so many great games and even now they r still coming out with games for it u cant beat it for the price WOW its great i had an xbox it was aweosme the graphics were great but the lack of games kinda sucked with the ps2 there r sooo many games to choose from....i highly recommend this to anyone who likes gaming...

I like the playstation 2.  I have played the x-box and the gamecube and I prefer playstaion 2 to the x-box, but I like the gamecube better than the playstation 2.  The problem with my playstation 2 right now is that it's getting old it won't play the playstation games anymore and some of the playstaion 2 games.  I am going to have to replace this soon.

I love this machine even though over the years I had to buy two of them. Some of the biggest games ever was on the ps2. The GTA series is what separated the ps2 from the XBOX. And this system allowed me to play my bootleg games. Its the first gaming system that allowed ya to watch DVDS. Even though its old theres still some good games on it too.

PS2 slams the competition with great graffix great games and they are alot more fun then xbox could ever be. xboxes are peices of shit.

I resisted the whoke Playstation phenomena until recently. Then I went to stay with my sister-in-law and had a go on her husband Mike's Playstation 2 (playing Devil May Cry). I immediately underwent an instant and, dare I say it, biblical style conversion. Perhaps it was partly due to playing on huge widescreen TV with surround sound, or perhaps I was just trying to avoid talking to my sister-in-law. But whatever it was that did it, I played and played until my fingers began to cramp and my eyes began to water. Once I got home I found a way to justify the expenditure and so went out and bought one of the silver slim Playstations and have been getting stuck in ever since. A big fan of role playing games, I have made my way through Devil May Cry 1, 2 and am now advancing through the 3rd game in the series. Five stars because it played all the old PS games as well. . .and it plays DVD's for god's sake! When I bought it in grad school my then girlfriend (now wife) got mad but I said, "Babe, it's to watch movies. . .it's for US!" She didn't buy it then or now. . .

The reason why i am giving the Playstation 2 5 stars is because of the awesome RPG games on it like Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2. The Playstation 2 can do pretty much everything that the Xbox can do. With Xbox you have to buy a special controller to play DVD's. With Playstation 2 the only controller you need to play DVD's is the Playstation 2 controllers! (I love that). Playstation 2 runs great and has good graphics. The Playstation 2 isn't to big and it isn't to small either! Xbox is HUGE which can be a drag to carry around. Playstation 2 all the way!

I have an Xbox but it's just to play Halo 2 on. I absolutly LOVE my Playstation 2. I love it becuase of Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest 8, and Kindom Hearts 1 and 2. This is a GREAT system. The graphics are as good as xbox and i like it better becuase i play more games on it.

To all people that say Xbox is oversized: it's not size that matters, period. Xbox has many appealing games like Halo, Ninja Gaiden, Far Cry Instincts, and the upcoming Black. The Xbox also gets many games that the PS2 does and as a matter of fact most of them look better/run smoother because the Xbox is more technically advanced. Also the original Xbox controllers were a bit big but the new ones are fine. As for the PS2... the graphics are choppy (on 90% of the games) and very outdated. The only decent games it has that you won't find on other systems are Tekken 5 and God of War. 'Nuff said.

Although it still can't compare with the Nintendo GameCube as far as the game selection and overall design goes, the Sony Playstation 2 is a remarkable console. For one, the graphics are almost at par with the GameCube at times--only a few games have the somewhat-overblown anti-aliasing problems. The game selection is very good. I could care less about the violent first person shooters and soon-to-be-rated-AO Grand Theft Auto series. Games like Kingdom Hearts (an awesome Square/Disney crossover RPG), ESPN Sports (with the best presentation values of any sports games), Burnout 3: Takedown (with it's challenging and puzzle-game-like Crash mode) and more were the reason I purchased Sony's emotion-engine-powered console. The amount of platformers is surprising. Ignore the JAK sequels and you have Rayman, Sonic, and many more. The controller, while a bit ankward at times, is very good. i don't see what makes ps2 so good. i mean, it needs a memory card, takes a while to load for a lot of games. why have thaat happening to your system when you can just get an xbox because it doesn't do that stuff? I mean there are some games that do take a little while to load. And the graphics are ok. the tv seems to be d im when i'm playing my ps2. that doesn't happen to my xbox. Though ps2 isn't a horrible system. I like xbox better.

I've been a PS2 fan since it came out. My recent purchase of an XBOX has tempered my opinion on the system a bit, but it's still great. Lots of good titles (and bad ones too) and definitely worth the price. Gamers will be pleased with it.

this system sucks

It has more games than the competitor's and making PS one games playable was a great idea. So I don't have to dust off the original playstation in order to play an older game. And if I want to watch a movie I can just pop a DVD into my PS2. Too bad I can't do that with my Gamecube.

One of the best of the trio. Affordable, sexy and a good choice of games. Good all around system.

What can I say about this system? Sure, it doesn't have the graphics of an XBOX, but hey, it's better than a Gamecube. I reckon this is better than XBOB because it is compatible with PS1 games. The only flaw is that PS2 games are really too expensive and SONY may think about bringing out PS3 soon. It can also play DVD's, though you should get a real DVD player if you can afford one.

This is for smackdowner. It is so obvious that you have never even played a Playstation 2. You probably got Xbox as a gift and have played that and only that every since. I have played both systems and in my opinion...hence rateitall.com Playstation 2 is by far the greater system.

The fact that I rated the playstion2 console a 5 doesn't cut it, it should be rated a 1,000,000,000,000,000!!!!

Even though PS2 doesn't have the incredible graphics as Gamecube & Xbox, Sony still has the market cornered. The wide selection of games, and PSOne compatiblity will keep the Playstation nameplate around for a long time. I rather have a blast playing fun and awesome games on a PS2 then be bored but play a game with awesome graphics on Xbox or GameCube. The addition of playing DVD's sweeten the deal. There's so many classics on Playstation like GTA vice City, Grand Turismo, and the list goes on. If your into Sport Games however, maybe PS2 isnt for you. Gamecube has awesome graphics and well for sports EA makes em for almost everyone. Forget XBox all together, Microsoft has enough money and makes enough junk that Xbox may have been it's first and last entry to the video game market. Sony is the definate winner, with the technology they put into video games, can go through their whole product line-Computers, Tv's, ect.

the best selection when it comes to teen-young adults-adults. they have the best games but not the best consoles. the compaibilty is great allowing you to play PSone games as well as PS2/DVD movies. the graphics arent as good as x-box but are pretty good.

PS2 is a fine system. It certainly has a vast number of games available. the most popular of their games appear to be sports games. However, I feel as if there are not many exceptional multiplayer shooters available. PS2 has many fine titles, among them Medal of Honor Frontline which is one it's best games. I'm looking forward to the release of Firewarrior soon. This game is shaping up to be a fine game and it will finally bring the world of Warhammer 40,000 more publicity. Warhammer 40,000 is a table top wargame which itself is excellent, coupled with PS2 it sure should be a fine title. All in all PS2 is a system that is money well spent and you can find a game to suit any interest. If they make more multiplayer shooters or cooperative type games it'd be even better.

The people that complain about the graphics on PS2 are probably the same people who say Linux is better than windows - they just want something to bitch about. The graphics are great for me, as are all the games I can rent or buy. I also use the DVD all the time.

Why don't they (and all game console makers) somehow make WIRELESS game consoles so one doesn't have to hook them up to one's TV; it's too much of a hassle, difficult to figure out, and gets in the way. Also they do not make enough of a variety of games. There are people out there, like me, who are klutzoids and get "killed" right away when they try to play these games. Why not have a whole series of EASY, "baby" games for people who are not very coordinated. The prices for these games are way too steep besides.

I've got one.I play it all the time.I enjoy most of the games on it.I also enjoy the fact that I can play DVDs on it.Two thumbs up!

i've had one since 2000. I love video games and this system is no exception. I play this along with xbox. Ps2 really holds its own when it comes to video games. It still comes out with games that i love to play. This system will forever be one of the greatest systems ever.
