Sun Feb 14 2010I travel once per week through Frankfurt Airport.. yes they have a great network but the personnel is often very unfriendly and sometimes even aggresive....and of course too long walks to the gate.. the business lounges are overcrowded with a terrible or no climate control and it stinks....

Wed Jan 20 2010I went through the Frankfurt airport on my way to the U.S. on January 18, 2010, after new security procedures were in place, and it took an average of 2 minutes per person in line to get through security. When I arrived at the security line, about 6 or 7 people were in front of me, and it took 15 minutes to get through. They now open and search every bag, and I had a pat down search because I set off the alarm even though I had less metal on me than I have had at any airport before (glasses, wedding ring, and trouser clasp and zipper were all the metal I could think of). I originally had 1 hour 50 minutes scheduled between flights at Frankfurt, but that was cut to 1 hour because of weather delays. I almost missed my flight, and now I will try to never have less than 3 hours scheduled for Frankfurt. For those who have not connected through Frankfurt on their way to the U.S., you do not need to claim you checked bags in Frankfurt, they just go onto the next plane. But you will need to g... Sat Aug 08 2009This is a major hub to fly to countless Western and Eastern European cities (not to mention the Middle East, Asia, and Africa) so plan a two or three hour layover here to enjoy the above-average cafe on the first floor. They'll take your credit card and convert to Euros. . .there's a small monetary exchange office on the floor above the cafe. . . Once you get away from this centralized location, the airport is a maze of letters and numbers to find your gate. . .just pay attention and be patient and you'll be fine. I found the employees at the information desks to be very helpful since my Germanic language abilities are non-existent and the employees clearly have experienced travelers from almost everywhere. All in all, not a bad airport to kill some time during a layover. Oh, they don't sell asprin or other pain-relievers in the convenience store- that stuff is sold in a pharmacy only- so pack accordingly.

Wed Jul 15 2009I'm a european doctor who live in the UK for 12 years. I was travelling through Frankfurt to Manchester, though I carry an EU passport and I live and work in the UK, I was very badly treated by some of Frankfurt Security officer, I was asked why I'm going to the Uk and what type of work I do..etc It was clearly an interogation. The officer was racist, rude, unfriendly and very arrogant. I complained to Lufthansa, but I never received an apology from Frankfurt Security. I'm very disappointed that some officers who work in one of the biggest airport in Europe can be so unfiendly and rude. I shall never travel through Germany and I will defintely never fly Lufthansa again! If you are dark skin, or have a forigen name, you shall be humiliated at Frankfurt airport.

Mon Sep 01 2008Recently flew from Munich via Lufthansa to get a connecting United flight to the US. Just HORRIBLE!!!! Although we had cleared security in Munich and checked our bags through to the US, to get to our departure gate we had to go back outside the security area, then once again, go through security. The concourse for our flight was displayed on the Departures screen, but the gate appeared relatively late. To get to said gate, we had a long walk through parts of the airport that looked, and smelled, as if they had been abandoned. When we finally got to the departure waiting area, we found that the amenities consisted of seats and a food vending machine.

Sat Feb 02 2008My fourth time through Frankfurt. I don't know how they can do so well with such a big job. Contrary to what I read here, we have found the staff to be quite friendly and capable. What a breeze to connect with rail transportation. We had an attendant go out of his way to explain the system to us, and to help us with our bags. We do not like the smoking, either, but managed to survive. We feel safe here, if not smoke free.

Wed May 23 2007I managed to find my way around pretty easily. But this was the first non-U.S. airport that I'd been to, so I had fairly low expectations before I got there. I sort of expected to be confused and have no idea how to find my luggage or catch a train, and I ended up having very little trouble with these things, so I consider my experience of flying into, and out of Frankfurt to be a positive one.

Sun Nov 06 2005Clean, sterile even. A large soulless place, more so than other airports. Easy access to trains is a plus. Unfriendly staff and long walks between gates a minus.

Wed Nov 10 2004The airport in Frankfurt is clean and provides the infrastructure (restaurants, shopping) you would expect in an airport of that size. Security staff is - not always but by far too often - unfriendly. Unfortunately, you will normally have to walk long distances for your connecting flight. Clearly substandard is Frankfurt's smoking policy: smoking areas are every 10 meters which means the whole airport stinks. I couldn't find any restaurant/bar with a no-smoking area.

Sun Jun 20 2004Terrible. Undermanned, overpoliced, poor facilities and dreadfully signed. The transit location from Hell.

Wed Mar 31 2004Frankfurt, in my experience,is generally well-organized, but it moves people like cattle. Security has always been tight, but last September I went through and it was exceptionally tough - better than at US airports. The downside is that once we got into a waiting area, they would not let people out even to go to the rest room. Waiting areas tended to be a bit smokefilled.

Wed Feb 19 2003Frankfurt... Totally confusing mess. I flew through in Jan 2003, not a single flight departures board to find my connecting flight. I followed the signs to the transit train and came to a blocked wall. Tried going back the way I had come and the doors were closed. I finally had to go the OPPOSITE way to the signs and at the far end of the terminal, completely the opposite way to the signs, I found the transit link. The other hald of the terminal was dark, black plastic floors and low ceilings. Not warm, friendly or welcoming. The shopping is limited, very poor. Only good think is the network!

Thu Dec 06 2001For safety, Frankfurt Airport deserves five stars. I was there in October, and I was checked five times (including a search of my carry-on bags) before boarding a flight to the United States. The airport security workers were professional and polite, and I got the feeling that they cared about their jobs. It was impressive. For courtesy and comfort, however, Frankfurt Airport deserves one star. I was treated very rudely at a shop, by an airline representative, and at McDonald's. I would go so far as to call their behavior hostile, which I certainly didn't appreciate. In addition, the waiting areas were very small, and there was limited seating. Overall, my stay at the Frankfurt Airport was unpleasant, but I felt very safe!
