Poul Anderson's interstellar spy evolved dramatically over the 30 some years that he appeared in fiction.
At first a kind of "pigs in space" pastiche, a libidinous James Bond with a blaster and a space ship, he develops increasing subtleties and complexities as time passes.
Well worth exploring the five or six novels and 20 or so short stories. Even the cartoon era versions are an entertaining read.
