08/02/2008 | I don't see how McCain or Obama could get the budget balanced in the short time that either one of them could serve, even if they served two terms. After all, the rotten condition of this country didn't happen overnight, and it won't be fixed overnight, either.

08/02/2008 | It takes Democratic presidencies to balance budgets. We know that now, as the two biggest spenders in real dollar terms in our history are Bush, Jr. and Reagan. Since he's looking at potential war with Iran and long term presence in Iraq, balancing the budget is completely off the table. I took a star off simply because at least he's recognizing the sheer impossibility of the promise with his policy proposals.
