Fri Aug 30 2013No other sport offers such nominal amounts of actual athletic activity stretched out over such a vast investment of time. Add to that the exorbitant price people pay to acquire equipment, practice at driving ranges, take lessons and actually play a round of golf. I can't help but wonder what size of a whole people must be trying to fill in their psyche that they are willing to sacrifice so much of their time and money.

Thu Aug 29 2013GOLF TIPS: BACKSPIN: COMMON MENTAL MISTAKES 1. Getting Easily Distracted. There's a lot of downtime in golf, which allows our minds to wander. Some players begin to think of the holes that are coming up, while others are thinking of the phone message they just received from work. These are distractions that will take away from you being focused on the current shot. Instead, ask better questions of yourself to stay focused. How is this lie of the ball going to affect my shot? What angle do I want to come in from to this hole location? What's my intermediate target on this chip shot? Questions like that will change your focus and get you to stay focused on what's relevant for the present shot. 2. Obsessed With Score. Yes, we keep score and it's an important aspect of the game; however, if golfers only focus on their scores, it will create a major distraction. Thinking of score too much creates anxiety and added tension. Instead, focus on the process of each shot. Use a mental routine, ... Read more

Thu Sep 01 2011When I was a kid, I heard a local, well known swordsman state that men who chase a little white pill are generally incapable of chasing anything else. I always thought that was sage advice.

Fri Oct 08 2010It's certainly one of the most boring types of sports to watch in person and on tv. In terms of playing golf, I liked it for a while, and was decent....but for me it wore off pretty quickly, and the clubs are collecting years of dust.

Thu Jul 01 2010I like golf but play it about once a year. It's a relaxing and scenic game but with the cost and time involved, and low impact/excercise compared to most other sports, the clubs mostly just sit in the closet.

Mon Mar 12 2007Fun to play and a bore to watch. I will stick to The Masters. Ok, a golf joke. Why is golf called golf? All the other four letter words were taken!

Wed Jun 28 2006Golf isnt just a Sport, it's an obsession. It's great though because you can be bad thru a whole day, but you'll always remember the one good hit, shot you make. Golf can be played by any type of person, but it does require skills that must be honed to play it well. It's also a great Sport to be in tune with nature because nature plays a huge part in the way you play the game. Golf has also gone mainstream, moving away from being a Sport for the wealthy to being played by the everyday guy who likes the Sport. One thing about Golf though , is that it can be expensive to play. Women can play it as well.

Fri Jun 23 2006Hey you people having a pop at those giving low ratings. They're just giving their own opinions which is the whole point of Rate It All. IN MY OPINION golf is the most boring spectator sport ever. Another major problem especially in the UK, is that many private golf clubs are full of stuck up w@nkers who, many who have ridiculous 'No women' policies. They also have silly outdated practices such as recommending and seconding members and blackballing people for wearing the wrong type of tartan trousers. However, as a kid I earnt a nice little sideline from nicking golf balls off the fairway andselling them. Also had loads of fun stretching clingfilm over the cups in the holes and watching someone's well aimed putt skim across the hole Jesus-like. Happy days.

Fri Oct 28 2005Golf is a great sport. It takes skill and lots of practice. It is a sport for the entire family can get involved in. Some of our families best memories are spending the day at the golf course. Don't knock it until you have tried it.

Mon Feb 07 2005As Andre Agassi once said about golf, I'd never consider anything a sport which I could perform while being drunk...

Sat Aug 07 2004This is a dumb sport, but putt-putt golf is better. My step dad loves this sport, one time my bro told me that my stepdad lost a match with him and he stomped on his golf club, oh just to tell you, he's 48. This is a retarded sport if you under the age of 20

Tue Apr 13 2004I'll give it a 2, because a) golf broadcasts would have to be the most boring in sports b)it takes a little bit of challenge-i mean to hit the ball accurately is hard c) old men enjoy it a lot more than youths d) it's quite a sexist sport-not a lot of women play it and e) some of the terms make no sense to me

Mon Aug 18 2003A gentlemans pursuit, a rich history of dressing up, excluding women, all races but white and the poor. Golf courses take the room of about 15-20 football fields. Greenspaces and "real" sport fields could take the space occupied and hundreds more could have fun. What is it about the golfing image that people like? Do you really want to dress like the snotty villian in an 80's coming of age movie? If golf is such a true sport then why are it's athletes so lame and incapable at other sports?" Tiger Woods to play in NBA" I don't think we will be hearing that anytime soon. Golf courses polute like crazy with fertilizers and pesticides, herbicides, fungucides. I think golf is for wimps.

Sun Aug 17 2003I don't see what's so interesting about this little activity. I think it's strange how women are now getting into the sport since it was started in Scotland and the letters originally stood for Gentlemen Only Ladies Forbidden. I'm just stating the facts, I don't mean to be sexist. I'd like to apologize to any female golfers that took offense to that.

Thu Aug 14 2003Golf is a sport and its fun. However, some of the comments here are absolutely stupid. Like Rover writes "Zzzzz". Why hasen't this trash been removed? Golf courses are beautiful. Its fun to get out of the house once in a while and just play golf on a huge course. People here have probably never even played before. Golfing is my favorite sport- its easy, its long, and it is all for fun. Othr sports are too competetive. Golf is all fun.

Thu Aug 14 2003I enjoy playing golf with my grandparents on occasion. To me it is a wonderful sport to play if you are just having fun, and relaxing. It is one of the few sports that I can talk and visit while playing. I like it.

Fri Aug 08 2003I didn't always like golf, but as I've gotten older I've gained a strong appreciation for it. The TV broadcasts are better than ever.

Sat Jun 14 2003I've always wanted to play golf, and I'm sure if I did, I would rate it higher. For now, I'm a little put off by it. First of all, is there any sport with more stupid rules than golf? And what is the deal with these people who keep calling in to the PGA office or whatever and reporting rules infractions? That should not be allowed to happen. It's like the PGA is announcing their incompentence by letting people call in from Joeblowville, USA, and ratting on the players. It happened just the other day to Duffy Waldorf, and it happened several years ago at the Doral Open to Paul Azinger. (There is a happy ending to the Azinger story. He says in his book that the guy who turned him in had all his tires slashed out in the parking lot of his club!) Not that I condone that kind of thing, but in this case, it was more than appropriate.

Sat May 24 2003I've always thought of it as a sport for old men who have retired, but I guess since I want to be a politician when I get older, I'll have to learn how to play if I want to met some people with big bucks. I am going to some golf courses with my Grandfather this summer, so we'll see if I learn to enjoy the sport. It's always been boring to me.

Sat Mar 15 2003As a spectator sport this is as boring as it gets, BEYOND TERRIBLE. However, as a sport to be played it's ok. So I average it out at just bad.

Mon Dec 09 2002I'd rather watch a snail go from point A to point B.

Sun Nov 17 2002I can't simply insult Golf and call it stupid because so many people enjoy it. Clearly, others see something that I don't see. I simply can't stand the game. I can't understand why people would invest such time, money, and energy into the game. But it HAS to have some good qualities. . .the number of people golfing are just too high.

Fri Jun 28 2002I know very little about golf, but it strikes me as being a fantastic sport to actually compete in, but pretty dull to watch.

Wed May 01 2002In a word, yawn! Really I will never understand why so many people are attracted to this sport.

Mon Apr 08 2002Hate this Recreational activity--let's be honest, because it's not a SPORT. Once for the rich, now for everyone played on public courses by the middle and lower classes who wanna play catch up. I HATE THE RICH! personally i'd like to take all GOLF courses and build low-income housing on their lush and green wasted acres of land!! remember when people used to talk about BASEBALL!!

Tue Jul 24 2001Most people don't understand how much excitement can be involved in a golf tournament. Before stereotyping the sport saying it's boring, one must first be open-minded about it and give it a chance. There's actually ALOT of adrenaline in Golf. Just because it's not physically expressed as much as in other sports, it doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Overall, it's hard to explain. Once you get into Golf (and it's not hard to), you'll discover a new world of fun.

Wed Jun 20 2001You know the person that drives the cart around handing out beer? Well... thats me. I can't get into this sport.

Tue Apr 03 2001Unless it's mini golf, I am not at all enthused by this sport. It has to be the most boring sport there is...I just don't see the excitement in it. And it takes hours to play, and you have to whisper and be calm. Where's the fun in all that? And why does it seem like all the big-shot executives love this sport? Guess it reflects their personality? Golf leaves me asleep at the wheel.
